Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Review

Tarantino writes some weird screenplays having unusual stories to tell and when you're in the middle of it, ends up thinking about the story and how different were the characters and their desires because his screenplay is never linear, always have some complex layers and turns to withdraw our attention.

As the title suggests, it's a story of Hollywood. The film is a little long & doesn't understand some sequences. I mean, these long unnecessary sequences does'nt change much if weren't there.

Rick Dalton, a struggling Hollywood actor previously, worked in a TV show called BOUNTY LAW, ends up with some small pilot projects. Got a chance to act in an Italian film which he doesn't want to do because he wants to make in Hollywood again but has no choice.

The director Marwin ( played by Al Pacino ) made Rick realize that Hollywood is using him as a bad guy who always got kicked out in the end and nobody gives a fuck about his career.

- They're ruining your image by kicking your ass. You're nothing more than a punching bag,

Who is gonna kick your ass next week  ..

Down goes you down goes your career as a leading man & advises him to go to Rome, star in Western and win the fucking fight. He actually helps him to get an Italian film.

I like the Directing style of Tarantino, mostly the camera movements, colors of lighting, choosing a song to be played in background scores. Importantly, the car ride, and how he shoots that, was all very fascinating.

The movie and screenplay move forward as the lead character meets people will be for a reason or having some sense of effect which gonna reflects on characters life in the movie afterward.

Cliff,  the Stunt Double of Rick was a man with balls. He's a tough guy who got a well-trained dog named Boston.

We can experience most of the part where Rick is shooting for his film with some long uninterrupted sequences and I think Tarantino wants to watch his acting in a film under his film. So, he shoots a few long-acting sequences and we didn't get bored, even enjoyed the process and acting of DiCaprio to understand the character more.
But they cast Margot Robbie  there just to pay respect to Rick when he finally earns it, at the very end of the film because of his film got success and he's kind of famous now. But, Pitt  got a really good role with DiCaprio, He's a Stunt Double, his friend, his supporter, driver, mechanic, bodyguard everything that he can do to save Rick's ass.

We saw Western and it's influenced in previous Tarantino's film but here, they pick the Western theme thought-out and stick with it. It can be a tribute to all the Hollywood Western films and their associates (Actor, Director).

Can say, it's a love letter to Hollywood & West from Tarantino ..

DiCaprio and Pitt do all the heavy lifting but Robbie got very less screen time. Both look fabulously fluent and skilfully dwelling into their respective characters.

The transition of the story pace forward lucidly and very smoothly, some sequence may seem dull or boringly stretched, if you aren't listening or paying attention to the dialogues. Otherwise, it's fun to watch. At the start, I'm afraid of length but as the story moves it's engaging and interesting. But could have used Robbie more.

The End Sequence (Climax) -

As they start narrating the story with a strange voiceover and yells to note the time, we sniff that something dangerously awful is going to happen which hasn't happened yet throughout the film. Tarantino warns us before the blast that's what he did, that's how he started Pulp Fiction with a warning dialogue. And we waited for a while till it got triggered.

The whole narrating period of the last sequence, they put most of the lens on pregnant Robbie so that we indulge with her and then slowly, flips it the other way.
They try to bluff us by putting the lens at Shelton (Margot Robbie) and kicking Rick's ass because they monged out Cliff too but he ain't and kicks them out to death.

The last fight was wild, lethal and filled with cruelty. Choreographed and written malevolently, No mercy !!

BTW, WHO THE FUCK IS CHARLIE !!
