Asuran Review
One thing I love about south films that they bring better content then Bollywood, most of the time and play, Raw (without any fancy locations or makeups).
This takes us to the very circle that the director is creating and we find ourselves inside it. In that manner, we can connect and relate better.
Asuran is a film with raw and brutal content.
The story is stout and despite so many turns, all deals with reasonable and necessary intent to take the story forward.
They keep it simple and rough. Especially not introduces our protagonist with a massive blow - introduction. A good story with resemblance soundtracks. It's really an intense and powerful movie that has so many things to serve.
It's dark, scary & violent to the same degree. A lot of wrath and revenge in the air. It's not a story of a hero instead of a man busy protecting his family and fight for them.
You can tell in short,
" It's a Ram Gopal Verma film but not directed by him "
The action sequences are real-not fancy that we've witnessed earlier in South films. Looks palpable, not overactioned. They fight with machete and spears to kill each other.
Storyline :
There's a greedy rich man - Vaddakuran (Aaduka Naren) who wants to grab a 3-acre land of Siva Saami (Dhanush) which he doesn't want to sell that's the main conflict of the story which gives rise to this rampage. Yeah, storyline looks so simple and you can easily guess that there's a fight between them & in the end, Siva Saami will win because he's a hero.
No, you were wrong. He's not a hero or villain. He's a simple man just like Ajay Devgan in Drishyam, who tries not to fight and protect his family from the goons & troubles. This is what fueled him emotionally throughout & keeps his rage high all over the film.
Dhanush is incredibly unrecognizable.
His look, his voice, the way he wears this character is making us fond of his acting. He's just brilliant.
The entire cast is on the verge of anger & dedication. Everyone accelerates their individual characters at a very high pace which makes this whole film intensely amazingly. The intensity of the film, of the characters was really high.
The corpse they show of the young boy was really something that could make you uncomfortable & leaves you unsettled for a minute.
And also in vexation against the pathetic ideology and the injustice been served to a particular caste or community. There were so many scenes that can make you cry.
I actually love Dhanush's character (Siva Saami) because it was written meticulously and very precisely.
He doesn't want to fight first and never will but due to some circumstances he has to but in the end, he told his son instead of revenge, study hard and become a powerful person, to place yourself at the position where power is served. And from this, you can help others and your community to get the justice which they deserve.
The last dialogue just takes my heart away
If we own farmlands, they will seize it.
If we have money, they will snatch it.
But if we have education, they can never take it away from us ..
There were so many scenes that were shot exquisite (with a full passion). The production design works fabulously - the clothes, houses, district court, police everything seems so natural and jaw-droppingly high on perfection. The way it needs to behold at and turns to set the mood of the film peers wild and hungry.
Direction and Cinematography were good and looks substantial and rough where it needed.
Starting with a river crossing scene then come back to the original state and again touched the past of the father keeps you busy and engaged with so much information provided to suck and move the story forward at a reasonable pace.
Lighting and all the night scenes look amusingly beautiful. They provide distinctly enough lights and enhance our viewing experience.
Go watch it for a brilliant story and amazing performance of Dhanush. Streaming on Amazon Prime.
