Bala Review

BALA  is self-realization, a laughter gag, didn't remember when was the last time I laugh so hard, maybe while watching PK.
A good comedy movie besieges with a message that is requisite in our society, in our Indian culture.

They use Vijay Raaz's  voice which introduces himself as a hair of Bala and narrates the story throughout.

Bala got his name because of his glossy and long flying hairs but as of his adulthood strikes his hair says bye-bye Bala and starts falling. Now, he's bald and really ashamed of it. Everyone teases him and no girl wants to be with him due to his baldness. Otherwise, he got a really charming personality, confident about his mimicking skill and can do a stand-up But due to his hair loss, he's doing a marketing in fairness company selling beauty products by shaming ugly, dark skin girls, making guilty of having such complex and evoke them to use their product for fairness. There he met with her Product Queen-TikTok Star-Brand Ambassador Pari Mishra and falls in love.
He tried everything to swell his hair, also hair transplant but it didn't work. So, he finally chooses to put a wig on. After marriage, she got to know about the baldness of Bala and wants a divorce. After so many emotions, speeches and scenes, I thought that she would return and forgive him but no. They can do that easily because we've reached a point where it looks so convincingly possible but then the film is not complete and Bala will not accept himself as what he is, not because he has a wig or hair on his head, the real him, the real Bala despite his baldness or looks. They even try to play the best friend card but somehow find a better ending.

I actually love this grand ending with a great message delivered with a lot of humor. The story folds in such a way that there can be three possible endings like end with her wife, with her friend (which they possibly searched on it) but in first, they can't deliver that message they want to. Instead, looks sympathetic and feels, she accepted in pity which looks awful & In second, the two persons with some hereditary, connect and understand each other better. But the grand ending is when you accept yourself as who you're not how the world looks at you and believe in yourself, not in your looks. You'll be happy forever in that way.

Amar Kaushik with his second film after Stree thrives and understands the content and storyline. He got the basic formula instead of a big-budget, make a light budget film with not so big stars, cast some really funny guys around with some piquant concept. He's a player now and knows his safe side. Pulls the scripts full of laughter with unusual storylines and let us enjoy the ending. He did the same in Stree, breaking the shoddy society norms with humor and ends with a great message - to respect women.
Few things I noticed under his umbrella -

  • There is a good message at the end of the film.
  • He left the ending open in every possible manner so that they can start it again in any direction.
  • The guy and girl never meet or get in a relationship like Stree and the same in this.

Ayushmann - the content king, the risktaker, again got success in choosing the story with witty humor and taking up different challenges as an actor and proves again that he can do any role. From Andhadhun, Article 15 to Bala, Bareli Ki Barfi, Badhaai Ho, Shubh Mangal Savdhan presents a small-town guy with unique and different personalities. They can be dull, shy, arrogant, self-loving, charming anything.
He's so smart that he always chooses the character that we all know and surrounded by. In that manner, we can connect better every time he's on-screen with his humorous scripts.

Saurabh Shukla as Bala's father was amazingly endearing but the mother of Bala doesn't have much to do and keeps it simple but Seema Pahwa as Nikita's mother, she's a champion of comedy, even having a small role on her side, she makes us laugh with her comic timing just like Saurabh did.

Yami did her job honestly and even shocks us through her acting skills. She's Cute throughout the film.

We know how talented Bhumi is and lights the character through her sharp performance but can they use any other actress with dark complexion with that amount of acting - don't know any name. They can, but Bhumi shines really good - love her performance, not her dark makeup look.

Everyone has caught Kanpuri accent very well, also all the cast surrounds the lead was fabulous. Abhishek Banerjee as Barbar Ramu, Javed Jaffrey as Bachan Bhaiya because it's a story about Kanpur and there should be a bachan bhaiya required (-not mandatory), didn't have much on his plate just a small supporting role.

I actually like the trailer of Ujda Chaman more than Bala  but after watching both Chaman faded. Bala is still strikingly a laughable film with a lot of jesty moments in it. Actually, the subject is same but the personality of the characters makes the whole difference like Bala has a great personality with ravishing mimicking talent and he's sparking every time he's on the screen just got nervous because of his bald look. Rather than Chaman, he's dull was the same nervous guy from Sonu ki Titu ki Sweety, not having his own personality.

I enjoyed so much that I want to watch it again, one more time.

Songs I Like -

Tequila - I'm waiting for someone's marriage to dance on that soundtrack. The music, lyrics are groovy.

Pyar toh tha par - This song sums all the emotions that Bala is dealing with when her wife leaves him. Perfect breakup song in Jubin's voice.

One more, Zindagi -  I think there's a secret in making good old memories reviving song with some awesome lyrics in a sweet voice just like Chhichhore  song Woh bhi Kya din the.  Here, Zindagi in Papon's voice. Sweet and delightful.
