Parasite Review

Bong Joon-ho, acclaimed South Korean director caught eyes through his second film, Memories of Murder (my all-time favorite), delivers some really valuable, hardcore cinema gems like Okja, The Host, Snowpiercer, comes with a massive thriller, Parasite. Bong showed the class difference in his previous movie, Snowpiercer which he continued in this. He's an experienced storyteller especially, in Thriller. Carrying the same lead, Kang-Ho Song strikes again, this time really hard.

A poor unemployed, Kim's family depends upon the small works. Acclimated as an unrelated educated individual, got a chance to work for a super-rich Park's family thrives their need and what comes apart is very strange.

The film is cinematically correct in most of its aspects. The cinematography was luscious and delightedly accurate to obey the plot. It is pristine, the upper headshot was keenly - sharp and beautiful. Cinematographer, Hong Kyung-Pyo shows the class discrepancy, what director Hoong wants to convey through his film, which is certainly visible. The difference between wealthy and poor can be seen in every frame through cinematic use.

The town is also designed to present that, the rich are supposed to live up on the hill and poor, in the basement (under the ground). Rich has a big luxurious house where the poor hardly owns a house, only if not flooded by sewage water. They got a fridge full of foods and here, they rely on leftovers.

But their hope arouses when Kim's son got hired by Park's family through the recommendation of his friend Min, as a home tutor to teach English. He begins a trap, by making the spaces and expelling other workers. Through which, the whole family got hired by the chain of recommendations.

They break the chain of recommendation so that they can't suspect their intentions & relations and create a fake Caretaker service that provides maids, drivers, workers for household works to hire his mom.

Even, there's a scene when Kim's family having dinner in Park's house while watching the thunder from the big wall-size glass and enjoying the view (which they can't, from their home) and thinking of owning the house and here, we can smell their betrayed intentions through their greedy desires.

That is the only time when they enjoyed a higher status and living. Otherwise, after that, the whole night becomes a nightmare for them.

It's a need which makes people deceive, fraud, even broke their morals.
The need for survival which doesn't necessarily to be greedy.
That makes you so selfish, you've got blinded by your need and can't able to see others.

I'm expecting way more, wilder and formidable things to happen.
We've reached a clear point where we're expecting a big betrayal, killing or having malicious desires for their big lavish house but what turned out was a total surprise and unexpected from the plot that twists unceasingly throughout.
Having a nice first half burgeon to ruffle the situation further and crave more to twist.

Opening & Closing Shot of Parasite.

Due to heavy rain, Kim's house got drained.
They compelled to take shelter in a public gym and hardly can sleep but on next day, Park's wife feels good about yesterday's rain which cleans the polluted sky, could not tolerate Kim's smell and was forced to open the car's window.

There's a pause, When Park tells Kim, about his wife, got no talent in household works, don't know how to cook, wash clothes, or maintain the house. And then Kim asks,
Still, You love her, Right?
And he pauses for a while to think and suddenly says,
Of course, I love her & both smiles.
And then Park keeps thinking, Did he just cross the line by asking me about my personal life.

Also, the film shows the selfish characters of rich people, they did everything for the cause of their child and didn't see others suffering.

The resentment starts graving and aggravates when Kim's family put their life on the edge to death, got attacked by a man on the rampage at house party carrying knife and Park's starts running to save his unconscious child. And after that scene, when the killer salutes Park and says he respects him, but Park turns him around the ground to grab the car keys by covering his nose due to his body odor. That aggravates Kim's resentment and turns into a fit of violent anger.

Due to spoilers, I just can't describe further but can only say that the lights in Park's house didn't work on sensors 😁

The stone they received from Min, as a sign of prosperity and happiness, falls extremely wrong. They gain some and lose a lot.
Even when Kim's son went down to gift that rock as a sign of peace alters massively. Ultimately falls and bursts his own head.
